What We Support

The Edwards & Muzquiz Health Foundation (EMHF) is committed to serving medically under-served and under-resourced communities by strengthening their emergency management programs. Our work is grounded in data, compassion, and a deep understanding of the unique challenges these communities face.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

EMHF supports emergency management readiness in communities that are disproportionately affected by disasters. According to FEMA’s 2024 National Household Survey, 30% of Americans worry that a disaster may affect them or their family, and 26% cite cost as the top barrier to preparedness. These barriers are even more pronounced in rural and low-income areas, where access to emergency planning tools and support is limited.

Our grants fund both pre- and post-disaster initiatives, including next-generation warning systems, innovative tools, management approaches, mitigation efforts, education, emergency medical and first responder training, scholarships, and shelter programs. We focus on readiness for earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, and public health emergencies such as pandemics.

MEDICALLY UNDER-SERVED POPULATIONS

Medically underserved populations often lack access to healthcare due to income, geography, technology gaps, or insurance limitations. These vulnerabilities are magnified during disasters. EMHF provides medical resources, education, technology, and outreach programs to ensure these populations are not left behind in times of crisis.

UNDER-RESOURCED COMMUNITIES

More than 60 million Americans – about 20% of the population – live in rural communities, many of which face geographic isolation, economic hardship, and infrastructure deficits. These communities often struggle to recover from disasters due to limited emergency housing, poor communication systems, and lack of access to federal aid. EMHF works to address these gaps by providing resources and support tailored to their needs.
